Sewing for Beginners
10 hours over 4 weeks

Fancy learning to sew, but don't know where to start?  Or maybe you are returning to sewing and need to get to grips with the basics again?    This course is designed for the absolute beginner or anyone lacking confidence in the basic operations of the sewing machine.  Completing a project every session, I will help you to build your skills and confidence so you are able to make a range of useful and decorative items for your home, yourself or to give as gifts.

By the time you have completed the course you will be able to:

  • wind a bobbin and thread the machine ready for sewing.

  • stitch in a straight line and around corners.

  • stitch a hem by machine

  • know how to sew safely.

  • make a button hole using a 4 part method on your machine.

  • hand sew a button onto fabric.

  • Insert a zip

  • Apply decorative trim and bias binding

  • Make a patch pocket

  • Use an overlocker to finish raw edges

  • design and make an envelope pillow case

  • sew a lined tote bag - maybe you could keep your sewing projects in it?

  • create a zippered pencil case/makeup bag

  • make an apron

Next course is running:
